IT’S half-way through the first week of the Easter holidays and if you are struggling for something there’s ten alternative ways to keep the children occupied Hampshire.
If you’re looking to avoid the usual egg hunts and trails, then this list is for you.
1. Fit and Fed sessions at Pound for Pound Gym and Boxing Club. Until April 19 from 11am.
Pound for Pound Gym and Boxing Club will offer free fitness training and a free healthy lunch. This will be offered to all children who usually receive free school dinners. The sessions will be held each week day during the school break.
2. Reptile exhibition at the Lordshill Community Association. April 21 and 22 from 10am until 5pm.
The Reptile Academy will be hosting their first 2019 reptile exhibition at the Lordshill Community Association, Cromarty Road, over Easter weekend. Array of reptiles on show, including reptile handling zones. Guests will be able to walk through exhibitions of reptiles from Africa, Asia and Central America, as well as much more. Tickets start from £16.70, and all activities within the event are free.
3. City Eye’s Holiday Film School. April 16 from 10am until 4pm
City Eye, in Above Bar Street, is inviting children to join and make their own film. Guests can choose if they want to take props or costumes. They will be using professional cameras and work in small groups to learn all the aspects of the filmmaking process. Ages 7 to 11 will be using stop animation, and 12 to 16 will be using cinematic storytelling. This will cost £30 per person.
4. Pond dipping at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens. until April 18 from 1pm to 4pm.
Sir Harold Hillier Gardens, Ampfield, are hosting pond dipping sessions for people to see what is in the education garden ponds. There could be animals such as diving beetles, pond skaters and snails. All equipment will be provided, and children must be accompanied by an adult. There is no need to book and tickets will cost £2 plus the garden admission fees.
5. Totally Tudors at Tudor House and Garden. April 17 from 10am until 1pm.
Tudor House and Garden is inviting guests to take part in a Tudor-themed art and history workshop. Here, guests can learn more about Tudor life, try on costumes and learn about Henry VIII’s six wives. They can also make their own Tudor clay head. Booking is essential, and tickets can be booked on site or by phone or online, and will cost £8. This is suitable for ages 5-11.
6. Easter farm fun at Longdown Activity Farm. April 13 to April 22 from 10am to 5pm.
Children can decorate their own Easter flower pots to take home and watch their flowers bloom at Longdown Activity Farm, Ashurst. Guests will be able to surround themselves with chicks and Easter bunnies, as well as take part in free Easter trails with prizes to be won. Normal admission to the farm will apply.
7. Learn to Skate in Guildhall Square. April 20 from 10am to 11am.
Skate Southampton will be holding skating lessons in Guildhall Square. It doesn’t matter how many times you have skated before, and instructors will be on hand to help anyone at any level. All equipment will be provided, but guests can take their own skateboards if they wish. It is suitable for children aged over five, and will cost £8 per lesson.
8. The Greatest Showman Sing-a-Long at Nuffield Southampton Theatres City. April 13 from 2pm until 7pm.
The Nuffield Southampton Theatres City is asking guests to come in their best fancy dress costume and sing along to The Greatest Showman. The film will be shown on-screen with lyrics so everyone can sing-a-long. Hits include A Million Dreams, Rewrite the Stars and This Is Me.
9. Kite making at Turtle Bay. until April 22.
Caribbean restaurant Turtle Bay is inviting children to make their own kites for free. All children will receive a kite-making kit. A new rum-based has also been added to the menu to keep adults busy,and will come with a scoop of ice cream and a piece of brownie. Children will receive their kit once they have ordered from the children’s menu. The kit is suitable for aged four and up.
10. Youth club Easter sessions at the YMCA Newtown. until April 18.
The YMCA Southampton Central, Graham Road, will be hosting a range of activities for people aged eight to 19. There will be cricket, basketball and football sessions, as well as other sports.
