A MAN is to walk more than 100km no-stop in the latest challenge to support his sick mother.

Chris Lacey will take part in the Isle of Wight ultra-marathon challenge on May 4 in aid of his mum, Janet who has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.

The 31-year-old will be walking the 106km route around the island’s coastal path, without any breaks, to raise vital funds for charity Parkinson’s UK.

It is one of many challenges Chris is taking on this year and he aims to raise £20,000 for the charity overall.

Parkinson’s is a serious neurological condition for which there is currently no cure. It affects around 145,000 people across the UK.

Janet was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2017 at the age of 57. Her symptoms include tremors, fatigue, trouble with her voice, anxiety, depression, and cognitive issues.

Chris has organised the challenge to raise money to help Parkinson’s UK fund vital research to find a cure for his mum’s condition.

Janet will be joining Chris and some of his friends for the last 25km of the walking ultra-marathon.

Chris said: “The Isle of Wight Challenge is definitely the hardest event I’ll be doing this year, but I’m determined to complete it. By taking part and fundraising it’s giving me a sense of purpose and that I’m helping to make a difference. I’m not going to just sit around and wait for this condition to beat my mum.”

Parkinson’s UK is the leading charity driving better care, treatments and quality of life for those with the condition.
