IN LIGHT of the news that Gareth Southgate’s men will be gracing St Mary’s Stadium to take on Kosovo in September, the Daily Echo shares pictures of the last time the Three Lions played in the city.
The date was October 16, 2002, and devoted England fans packed the stadium to see their beloved team take on Macedonia in the Euro 2004 qualifying stage.
The match ended in a disappointing 2-2 stalemate, but the atmosphere of the crowd was a real winner.
Saints star at the time Wayne Bridge started for England and admitted: “It was a moment I will cherish for the rest of my life.”
