KEEN cyclists will have a chance to cycle alongside an Olympic champion at a new event taking place in Southampton and the New Forest.

Hampshire Olympic cycling champion Dani Rowe will be taking part in a the event in June, which will give amateurs a chance to cycle alongside and get tips from pros.

The Olympic gold medalist from Hamble-le-Rice will be joined by Elena Cecchini, TTT world champion, former national champion and pro rider for Canyon Sram, and Sophie Wright, winner of the 2018 Women’s National Road Series in UK and new signing with WorldTour outfit, Bigla, at the Voxwomen Big Day Out Event.

The event will take place on June 16, the day after the OVO Energy Women's Tour, and will start from the new five star Harbour Hotel in Ocean Village.

The event is limited to 50 participants, both male and female, and will see cyclists will ride approximately 50 miles out from the hotel, around the New Forest and back, with top tips and coaching being offered by the pros along the way.

Sophie Wright and Elena Cecchini will be fresh off the Women's Tour the day before.

The aim of the event is to motivate and inspire women and help grow female participation in the sport of cycling.

A number of partners will be involved in the event, including Brother who will be offering neutral service support vehicles, and Zwift who will have a virtual reality cycling station at the event hub.

Standard tickets include a question and answer session with he pros, a luxury goodie bag, on site bike fitting and mechanics, and a coached ride.

It is hoped that this will become an annual event.
