FIREFIGHTERS were called to a blaze on the grounds of a Southampton school.

Crews from St Mary's and Redbridge Stations were called to Tanners Brook Primary School (TBPS) on Elmes Drive at 8.23pm on Sunday.

Cllr Steven Galton wrote on social media: "If you can smell burning in the Regents Park area there has been a fire within the grounds of TBPS.

"The fire brigade are on the scene and appear to have got it under control.

"At one point it seemed to be getting very big and I guess it is around the Year R playground/wooded area."

A Hampshire Fire and Rescue spokeswoman told the Daily Echo that undergrowth and trees on the site were on fire and were put out by firefighters.
