SOME of us travelling on South Western Railway like to read quietly or to reflect or even to snooze.
One in five of the carriages are clearly marked as “quiet zone”.
The trains used to say ‘no phones in the quiet zone’. Now they just say ‘please respect other people’. They will not say whether phones are prohibited or not.
Unfortunately a few people do not respect others, even when politely asked to show respect, and persist in using the phone so that the rest of us have to hear their conversation.
Would it not be better and fairer for all if there were to be a rule, and a clear rule?
