A HAMPSHIRE nursery nurse who looks after high risk newborn babies has been recognised as an unsung hero.

Rebecca Warren, 32, from New Milton has been nominated for the Daily Echo's Readers Choice Award as part of University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust's Hospital hero.

Rebecca has been nominated by Jessica Lane, 28 and her husband Jonathan, 34 for the care she provided their eight month oldson Leonard who was being treated for sepsis after he was born in June.

Jessica said: "We saw many doctors, consultants, and nurses at The Princess Anne but Rebecca sticks out in my mind as being one of the most helpful people.

"I was breastfeeding my son and she gave me a lot of support with this.

"No question was stupid when it came to her advice and care.

"She was so patient and gave us so much of her time which I know is precious."

Jessica added:" I was shocked mentally and emotionally after finding out my son had sepsis and Rebecca was just brilliant.

"We just clicked with her and got on really well.

"She really deserves to get some credit."

Rebecca, who has worked as a nursery nurse at The Princess Anne Hospital for the past three years said:" When Leonard was in hospital I had only just come back from maternity leave myself, so I could really relate to what Jessica was going through.

"I think it is really important to reassure parents and make sure they are happy and informed."

When she was asked about how it felt to be nominated Rebecca said: "It makes me feel very proud to be a member of the team here at The Princess Anne.

"I'm very thankful and it has reassured me that I am doing a good job.

"I think people who are doing a good job should be thanked as I think it will help people to progress in their career."

Nominations have now closed and the winner of the award will be revealed later this month.
