A PEDESTRIAN is in a life-threatening condition after being struck by a motorbike in Southampton.

The crash took place on the A27, Mansbridge Road, around 7.40am yesterday.

Police say the crash, which took place near the White Swan pub, involved a pedestrian and a motorbike.

The pedestrian, a 55-year-old, suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash.

He was rushed to Southampton General Hospital.

A spokesperson for South Central Ambulance Service said: "We received a 999 call at 7.34 this morning with the caller reporting a collision between a pedestrian and a motorcyclist outside The White Swan on Mansbridge Road.

"We sent an ambulance, a paramedic team leader in a rapid response vehicle and the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance critical care car to the incident.

"The pedestrian was a 55-year-old male who had sustained serious head injuries and was in a life-threatening condition.

"After initial treatment at the scene he was then taken to University Hospital Southampton."

The road was closed in both direction following the crash and remained closed for three hours.
