I KNOW it sounds like sour grapes and I am pleased that Southampton as a world famous port entertains the new mega ship, MSC Bellissima, but what a monstrosity it is!
Like many of its sister ships we see today it's ugliness is best understood when viewed from the stern, a vast square wall of battery-hen accommodation.
Remember the days of ships like The Windsor or Pendennis Castle boats? Beautiful vessels that had the lines of a ship a child would draw on paper.
These vast new passenger container ships may make cruising more affordable but count me out – their 'stack em high, cram em in' ghastliness is everything a passenger liner shouldn't be.
