TWO hundred homes have been without a phone line for two weeks after cables were damaged.

Residents living in Bitterne Park and Townhill Park say their BT lines have not worked since February 8.

Peter Fryer, 71, from Broadwater Road said: "I've tried contacting BT but they haven't got back to me. They are happy to take your money but don't seem to want to help when there's a problem."

An Openreach spokesperson said: "On 8 February Openreach was advised of a service fault in the Bitterne area of Southampton.

"We investigated the situation and discovered significant damage to one of our electrical boards.

"A cable servicing 200 premises had also been damaged causing the service disruption.

"We encountered a number of engineering problems in the repair work, including blockages to a duct which had to be cleared by our contractors before we could replace the cable.

"All services have now been restored and we encourage customers experiencing any future service disruption to get in touch with their broadband provider as quickly as possible.”
