“I WILL have to live with this for the rest of my life - I will never forgive him.”

Those are the words of a Hampshire man who had part of his ear bitten off in an unprovoked street attack.

Ollie Lamacraft was walking towards Southampton Central Station when he was punched to the ground by “thug” Sean Bartlett.

As the 25-year-old lay there, his attacker bent down and bit into his ear, cutting part of it loose.

Bartlett, 35, was jailed for almost seven years for the attack, which a judge labelled as both "unprovoked and savage".

His victim Mr Lamacraft, a father-of-one, has since spoken out and said no-amount of prison time will ever compensate for the damage Bartlett did to him.

Daily Echo:

Mr Lamacraft said: “I wanted him to get longer.

“I have to live the rest of my life like this and he’s only got to serve half of his sentence.

“Every time I look in the mirror it’s a reminder. Because of that, it will always stick with me.”

Alongside the injury, Mr Lamacraft had an agonising two week wait after the attack for results of a HIV test – which eventually came back negative.

The scaffolder, from Romsey, also claims he also lost out on a new job, as he was unable to start his role on time due to his injuries.

Asked what he thought of Bartlett, he said: “He’s scum.”

As previously reported in the Echo, Bartlett was jailed for six years and nine months for the “unprovoked” attack on Mr Lamacraft.

Daily Echo:

Prosecutor Dan Sawyer told Southampton Crown Court how the attack happened around midnight on August 25, as Mr Lamacraft walked along Western Esplanade towards Southampton Central Station.

Bartlett, who was walking in the opposite direction, punched Mr Lamacraft to the ground and smashed his head into the pavement.

Mr Bartlett then bit off the lower two thirds of Mr Lamacraft’s helix, which could not be reattached.

The court heard Mr Lamacraft needed 18 injections in his ear after the attack.

Mitigating, Rob Griffiths said his client had incorrectly believed Mr Lamacraft had called him a swear word before the attack.

Daily Echo:

He added that Bartlett had a “long standing issue” with drink, which “causes him to behave in a way he doesn’t normally.”

Bartlett, of Upper Shirley Avenue, Southampton, pleaded guilty to one charge of wounding with intent.

Sentencing him, Judge Robert Pawson said: “There was absolutely no justification for this savage, and I mean savage, attack you launched on Mr Lamacraft.”

He added: “You must use this as a starting point to stop drinking and stop behaving like a thug.”
