A HAMPSHIRE college has announced it will close its site early due to the forecast of snow.

Wyvern College, in Fair Oak, will close its site at 6pm today.

The site normally closes at 9.30pm, according to the college's website.

The announcement was made on the college's Facebook page.

It said: "The entire Wyvern site will be closed at 6pm today, due to incoming snow and ice. This will affect all facility users.

"This is to ensure their safety and of all staff who need to travel home in safe conditions."

The decision to close early has had an impact on fitnesses classes held at the college.

Treasure Gymnastics said on Facebook: "Wyvern College have taken the decision to close the school site early due to the impending weather forecast.

"As a result there will be no Treasure Gymnastics session today."

It comes as schools in Southampton have warned parents about potential closures due to snow.

One school, Shirley Infants, has contacted parents this morning to say it is currently "monitoring" the ongoing situation.

The statement said: "Due to severe weather forecast, Shirley School are monitoring the ongoing conditions.

"A decision to open the school will be published at 7am."
