A POPULAR New Forest pub has suddenly closed without warning, days after seeing in 2019 with a New Year's Eve party.

The Old Beams Inn, which dates back to the 11th century, is now closed for business.

A statement has been posted on the pub's Facebook page. It reads: "It is with much sadness that we have to tell you that we have come to the end of our journey with the Old Beams and we are now closed.

"For those of you that know us and who have been present whilst we have made changes and improvements to the pub then an explanation is in order."

The statement goes on to explain how the team arrived a year ago to get the pub into recovery from a "difficult position it had found itself in."

"Without really knowing it we came a pub turnaround team," they statement reads.

"As some of you may know our backgrounds have been that we arrived here with lots of energy and enthusiasm to give our customers a concept eatery.

"Or the only other serious alternative is that if there is anyone out there that wants to buy a freehold pub and work with the the Old Beams team then please make yourself known.

"The pub we understand will now be closed until the brewery decide if it is to be sold or they find another tenant.

"Once again thank you for your support and custom."

The Daily Echo has attempted to make contact with management from the pub, but to no avail.

Meanwhile, rumours have circulated on social media that the landlord has moved to France.

The pub, at Ibsley, near Ringwood, was recently refurbished and well-known for serving locally-sourced food and local ales.

A message on its website said: "Our food style is simple, yet delicious, offering pub classics in a modern British style.

"Everything we cook is freshly prepared and presented to the highest standard. Our Chefs are deeply passionate about their craft and we believe this comes across with every plate of food we serve."

Both the management and brewery were unavailable for comment.
