IT IS a friendly community pub in the heart of the town.

The Cleveland Bay in Chandler's Ford is run by couple Jade and John Whitfield who have owned the pub for 10 years.

Last year the pair refurbished the pub's interior and made a few small changes to the decor and lay out.

The front door was even moved to make a cosey space next to the bar complete with a log fire.

Jade said: "We have made some minor changes but they have made a big impact.

"It's been very popular with the community.

"Our number one priority is community, that really is our thing.

"We're not a food pub or a Sky Sports pub- we are a community pub that serves good food and shows Sky Sports."

The pair recently celebrated the pub's 10 year anniversary in October and hosted a birthday party complete with magic, music and dancing.

Run entirely by family, Jade receives help behind the bar from her mum, Meloney Gibb.

Jade said: "I think people like that it is family run here.

"You've got me, my husband, my mum, the kids and our dogs."

The husband and wife team host many family events every month including Halloween parties, a farm animal petting day and a family fun day to raise money for charity Friends of PICU.

The couple hold the charity day once a year and organise the event with local nurses and doctors within the charity.

Last year, they raised more that £2,000 for the charity.

As well as monthly events, the pub also has plenty of weekly events held in the evenings.

These include a social gathering for those aged 50-year-old or over on Monday, Test Valley Health Walks on Saturdays and a quiz night on a Sunday.

The team serve hot food with the chilli fajitas proving to be a big favourite on the menu.

The Cleveland Bay even has its own gluten free menu to cater to those with special dietary needs.

The pub serves a range of craft and core ales but Jade explained that this year's best seller has been a classic gin and tonic.
