RAM RAIDERS used a truck to smash their way into a Southampton convenience store yesterday.

The One Stop in Peartree Avenue had its front door smashed in, and was taped off by police.

Police believe a truck was driven into the doors and shutters to gain entry.

The occupants of the truck, thought to be a group of three or four people, then entered the store.

They are believed to have left empty handed before leaving the area in a truck and another vehicle.

Officers were sent to the scene to hunt for the group.

No-one has been arrested at this time.

One neighbour who witnessed the scene said: “I saw two vehicles leave. I think it was a pickup.

“They dragged something out of the shop, presumably the cash point, that’s what I reckon they took.

“They then sped away towards Bitterne.

“They weren’t there long. No more than a few minutes.

“I think its upsetting and worrying, but the fact it happened at night is better than if it had during the day.”

Another neighbour, who asked to remain anonymous said: “My daughter was woken up by the alarm.

“It seemed like something like an axe had been put in the door.

“At least there was no one actually working at the time.”

Police say enquiries are ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call 101 and quote 44190002504.
