JUNIOR Neighbourhood Wardens were invited by Mayflower Theatres pantomime, as a reward for their community work.

The theatre gave the youngsters tickets to their performance of Dick Whittington on December 20.

Southampton City Council’s Junior Neighbourhood Warden scheme encourages children aged seven to12 to get involved in community activities, projects and events across Southampton.

In return for the tickets, the Wardens carried out a litter pick to help theatre staff clear the auditorium between shows on December 21.

Sara Scott, head of creative learning at the theatre, said: “The work the Junior Wardens do in the community is really important and we are delighted to have this opportunity to continue our relationship with the group and reward them for all of their efforts with a trip to the pantomime.

“At Mayflower Theatre we are always looking for ways to support our local community and involve young people in the thrill of live theatre and it’s great to have this opportunity to recognise the fantastic work that the Junior wardens do.”

Southampton City Council cabinet member for homes and culture Cllr Satvir Kaur said: “We’re very proud of our Junior Neighbourhood Wardens and all of the wonderful community work they carry out throughout the year.

“I would like to personally thank them for their work and the positive role models they are for our community.”

The Junior Wardens shared the Christmas joy themselves, by bringing along residents of Weston Court, who they have been visiting for regular evenings.

Dick Whittington runs at the Mayflower until January 6.
