AN INQUEST has opened into the death of a man found in Southampton Common.
Winchester Coroner’s Court heard 21-year-old Amandeep Sansoa, of Gordon Avenue, Bevois, was found in the Model Yachting Pond on Saturday, December 1.
As previously reported, emergency services rushed to the common at around 8.45am after Mr Sansoa’s body was found. Officers had initially reported he was found in the Ornamental Lake.
The area was cordoned off throughout the morning and investigations were carried out at the site.

A police spokesman confirmed the death was being treated as “unexplained but not suspicious” and added they believed the body to be that of a man in his 20s from the Bedfordshire area.
Speaking at the time, Darren Palmer, assistant manager at The Cowherds pub on the common, said: “I came in at about 9am and there were police cars and a couple of ambulances but no-one has come in, nor said anything.”
As a result of the discovery, the parkrun set to take place at the common was cancelled.
The incident comes less than a month after a man’s body was found a short distance away near the southern boundary of the common.
As previously reported, a murder probe was launched last month after the body of 66-year-old Gerald Pragnell was discovered in woodland off Cemetery Road.

Pathologist Dr Basil Purdue gave a preliminary cause of death for Mr Sansoa of drowning, but added that was “provisional”.
Senior coroner Grahame Short adjourned the hearing for a full inquest on May 9.
