TEN pupils from Oak Lodge Special School starred in a musical parade to mark the opening of the new Ashurst Child and Family Centre
The date was November 4, 1998, when the children spent several happy hours making huge mobiles from beads and fur fabric, and practicing on weird musical instruments, to impress VIPs visiting the new unit.
Staff too were celebrating the culmination of five years work, to turn the old Ashurst Hospital into a central base for the Forest’s experts in child health.
The initial cost of the amalgamation of services was about £200,000, but the move would save money long term.
