Season ticket holders have been sent a voucher for a free pint at St Mary’s along with a letter from Hasenhuttl outlining his philosophy for the team and what they can expect from him.

Hasenhuttl hopes the gesture will help get people on board as he aims to help Saints out of the relegation zone via an upturn in form, starting against Arsenal tomorrow.

Daily Echo:

He said: “Everyone who knows me knows that I’m a guy who always brings everyone in our boat to row with us. It’s very important to have a good relationship.

“You can feel every day that Southampton is a very important part of everybody’s life in this area. Everyone wants to keep this club in this division.

“For us it’s a big chance to help them get lucky again and all we want to do the whole day is to make it possible that we have fantastic moments again and emotional moments.

“You never know, on Sunday maybe the first in a long time comes in St Mary’s stadium.”

Speaking of the free beer scheme, he added: “I think you have to build up your credit. It’s like an account. If you always take money out then sometimes it’s off. Now we have to put money in the account.

“We try to invest something and, more, show them we are working harder and put more in games like on Sunday against Arsenal.

“When we do so we can say ‘ok, we put everything in,’ and if it’s not enough they appreciate what they saw. The best thing would be invest so much and also get the most you can.”

In his letter to fans Hasenhuttl again promised the team would work with intensity and that if fans came with him it would be “a very rewarding journey.”

Daily Echo:

Hasenhuttl is hoping for a quick impact to end a run of one home league win in more than a year.

“We all should feel the commitment of the team is all about working together with the ball and against the ball,” he explained.

“When they do so it’s the first big step in the direction where you feel that something is growing in the moment.

“I want to see a team with very good commitment, the content we want to see, they should have this intention to do so and, more, in a style that you see they invest everything they have in that moment to bring a good result to the crowd and everyone watching us.

“If you do so it depends on a lot of things but when you don’t believe in that you have no chance from the beginning so for me it’s important these points I really want to see.”
