On page four of the Echo’s Saturday edition mention is made of the all too common event of bike theft. At the conclusion of the article we are urged by the police to ‘lock your bike with a D lock’.
I have recently had two bikes stolen on two separate occasions from the centre of Southampton. In both instances the bikes were locked to the standard bike stands provided by the council. They were secured by two D locks and yet the thieves were able to remove the bike without any difficulty.
Despite the thefts taking place in daylight and in an area where there must be many surveillance cameras the police ‘chose’ not to investigate the crimes.
Rather than words, action is needed.
