NEIGHBOURS have spoken out after a murder investigation was launched in a Hampshire home.

Yesterday, police launched a murder investigation after the body of a 73-year-old man was found at home in Bursledon.

Last night officers could be seen examining the end-of-terrace property at Boundary Road as neighbours spoke of their shock at the man's death.

Police said a 63-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Neighbours said police started knocking on their doors before 7am yesterday and asked them if they had seen or heard anything suspicious.

Officers cordoned off the house and spent all day the the scene.

One woman living a few doors away said: "The occupants have a son who has been there quite a lot over the past couple of weeks.

"When something like happens you expect to hear a noise or see something odd but there was nothing out of the ordinary until the police arrived."

Another woman said residents were still in bed when police started knocking on doors.

She added: "There were loads of police here but they just said they were investigating a suspicious death - they didn't even say who had died."

The woman said the house was occupied by a couple who had lived there for at least 17 years.

Daily Echo:

She added: "The woman was always out walking her dog but I only saw the man a few times."

Last night a police car was outside the house and a police van was parked in a narrow access road separating the property from a pair of semi-detached homes next door.

All the lights were on and a Christmas tree could be seen in the front room.

A grey Primera car was in the driveway and a bronze-coloured MG was parked on a grass verge in front of the house, just outside the police cordon.

A police spokesman said: "We are investigating following the death of a 73-year-old man at home.

"We have arrested a 63-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man on suspicion of murder. They remain in police custody at this time."
