A POPULAR swimming complex in Romsey is set to reopen after a £1.5 million revamp.

The Romsey Rapids Sports Complex will reopen to the public by February 18.

Places Leisure, the company that runs the complex together with Test Valley Borough Council, said the revamped facilities will reopen for February half-term but said that an exact date will be announced nearer the time.

As previously reported, the pool changing area and the health and wellbeing facilities are being upgraded.

Places Leisure has now confirmed that the new changing area will include new poolside showers, extra family changing cubicles, larger lockers and a new vanity area with free hairdryers.

A complete refurbishment and extension of the health suite is also under way and it will see the inclusion of an infrared sauna, drench showers, steam room, heated bench and relaxation area.

Danny Churcher, contract manager from Romsey Rapids, said: “As a social enterprise dedicated to creating active places and healthy people in partnership with the council we are delighted to invest within our facilities and offer our community an enhanced leisure provision, which we hope will inspire even more people to take up physical activity and enjoy a more active lifestyle.”

Work on Romsey Rapids started at the end of October 2018. Members have been given the opportunity to use the pools at Places Leisure Eastleigh, Andover Leisure Centre and River Park Leisure Centre.

Cllr Tony Ward, community and leisure portfolio holder, said: “I’m very pleased that the works are progressing well. This promises to be a fantastic facility that the whole community will be able to enjoy.”
