RESIDENTS can have their say on plans for a housing scheme in a Hampshire village.

Development group Wates Residential will be holding a public exhibition for residents to view proposals for the redevelopment of part of the former naval buildings adjacent to the current Daedalus site at Lee-on-the-Solent.

The project team will be on hand to hear residents’ views and answer questions.

The proposed scheme will add a further 19 homes to the 200 already being delivered at Daedalus Village.

Wates Residential was chosen by Homes England last year to act as the partner for the Daedalus project, with completion expected in late 2020.

The developer’s plans will provide a mix of housing, with 120 private homes and 80 affordable homes.

A spokesman for company said: “It will dramatically increase the number of new homes available for local people, as well as boosting the local economy through the appointment of local suppliers and creation of training and educational opportunities for residents. ”

Paul Nicholls, manager director for Wates Residential, said: “This project represents a unique opportunity to breathe new life into the historic Daedalus site.

“The buildings have been vacant since the naval base closed in 1996, and unfortunately they are in a state of considerable disrepair.

“Our plans aim to secure a viable future for the site and sympathetic integration with the wider Daedalus Village development.”

The exhibition will be held today from 3.30pm until 7.30pm.
