It is perhaps unfortunate the result of this match is lost in the mists of time, as we can’t wheel out the tired cliche of ‘needing a map to find the goal’.

Maybe it’s for the best...

Nevertheless, these pictures were taken on November 28, 1998, when Ordnance Survey took on Lymington.

The negatives were found in the Echo archives but weren’t published, hence the paucity of detail here.

Ordnance Survey do appear to have found the net in the picture left, with the desperate Lymington keeper sporting a horrific shirt.

Whether it stood, only those involved will know.
