A JCB ripped a cash machine out during a ram raid at a bank.

Police are investigating the burglary in which money was taken from an ATM machine at the HSBC branch in High Street, Alton.

The incident happened in the early hours of Friday morning and police say a JCB telehandler had been used to remove the machine from the wall.

Cash trays were then stolen and the handler left in the road.

Following the incident a 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of theft and a 23-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of acquire/use/possess criminal property.

Both are currently in police custody.

Chief Inspector Alex Reading said: “We understand people will be concerned about what happened and the impact that these types of burglary can have.

“We take all such reports seriously and officers are following several lines of enquiry.
