A HAMPSHIRE town is gearing up for its Christmas switch-on.

Organisers in Fareham say their "magical Christmas lights" will be switched on as part of a Victorian Christmas weekend.

Festive stalls will line the streets of Fareham on November 24 from 10am – 8pm to November 25 from 10am – 6pm for a weekend of fun.

"Royal" guests, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, will join The Mayor of Fareham, Councillor Susan Bayford on the performance podium at 4.30pm on November 25 for the official light switch on.

Father Christmas will appear at the family friendly event, as well as fun festive activities including fair rides, free face painting, reindeer, Victorian stilt walkers and policemen on penny farthings, arts and crafts and food and drink stalls.

Executive Member for Leisure and Community at Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Sue Bell, said: “We want the whole community of Fareham to come together and get into the festive spirit.

“It will be a fantastic weekend for the whole family to enjoy with activities and attractions for everyone. Let’s make it a Christmas to remember.”
