BOSSES of a Southampton ice rink have announced it will not open today due to "exceptionally mild weather".

SKATE at Westquay was expected to open for the first time today.

However, in a tweet this morning the announcement was made.

It said: "Unfortunately, due to exceptionally mild weather SKATE will not be open today.

"Anyone with pre-booked tickets will be contacted directly by SKATE to book a new date or get a refund.

Previously, bosses said the attraction promises to be 20 per cent bigger than last year, with improvements made on and off the rink.

These other changes include bigger skate exchanges, better skates, new skate aids, a larger outdoor space and improved session times.

The venue attracted 30,000 skaters between November and January last year, and this year it looks to attract even more between today and January 6.
