A NURSE’S car was written off when arsonists set fire to it on a quiet road.

Lynne Butler parked her car outside her partner’s home in Crusader Road, Hedge End, but when she was awoken at around 1am on Thursday morning, she saw smoke billowing from her black Ford Focus.

And now Lynne, 36, from Woolston, is warning others.

The dental nurse said: “I couldn’t believe what happened.

“I got a phone call from the fire brigade which told me my car was on fire.

“I thought it was a trick at first, but when I came down and saw my car I just couldn’t believe it.

“Hedge End is such a nice area, it was absolutely shocking.

“It makes you feel like ‘why me?’. Was it something personal?

“Or was it just somebody getting kicks out of burning cars?”

Lynne told the Daily Echo that firefighters found two fire blocks and rags soaked in lighter fluid under her car.

Despite the fire being put out by Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, the car was written off.

She wants to raise awareness after reading in the Daily Echo about other arson probes being launched across the city.

A spokesperson for HFRS confirmed the cause was as-yeat unknown and that an investigation had been launched.

Daily Echo:

The spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: “We can confirm we received a report of suspected arson in relation to a car fire in the early hours of October 25.

“The Fire Service reported the incident to us after being called to the fire in Crusader Road, Hedge End, at around 1am. The black Ford Focus sustained damage during the blaze, which was extinguished by the Fire Service.

The spokesperson added the incident had not yet been linked to any other incidents of arson in Southampton.

In August, police linked a spate of 13 arsons reported across Southampton in less than a month.

Several of the arsons, in Bitterne, Peartree and Woolston, resulted in “significant loss of property”, the police added.
