A BOY has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man died in Gosport.

The 16-year-old was held by officers, who were called to an address in Southcroft Road yesterday evening at around 5.30pm.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: "Next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. Formal identification procedures are ongoing.

"A 16-year-old boy, from Gosport, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody."

The police said there will be a lot of police activity in the area as it continues its investigations into the exact circumstances of the death.

The spokesperson added: "We understand that there will be concern among residents within the neighbourhood but we would like to reassure you that at this stage this is being treated as an isolated incident.

"Our officers will be in the area so please speak to them if you have any concerns."
