Over the years the Daily Echo has published many pictures from Southampton Pictorial - today we offer a glimpse into the inside workings of the publication.
These illustrations give some slight idea of the various processes through which the Pictorial had to pass before it reached the eager reader in its finished state.
They used the latest machinery and technology when the images were taken on April 8, 1914.
The Southampton and District Pictorial - to give it its full name - was a fairly new paper at the time - only in its third year.
As its title indicated, its chief feature was pictures of local happenings, and they were excellently produced.
In fact, first-class illustrations were a feature of all the newspapers published by the Hampshire Advertiser Co.
The Pictorial was making good progress and was used by many local advertisers.
