IT was one of many Hampshire buildings to have been converted into a hospital to treat casualties of the First World War.
Wounded heroes of the battlefield were nursed back to health in all manor of buildings during those dark days - including Cadland Estate.
These images show soldiers, nurses, doctors and staff at the Estate which was the residence of Maldwin Drummond.
The Estate itself was acquired by Robert Drummond in 1772 and originally sprawled from Hythe Pier Southwards.
The Hythe lands were sold off in 1895, and a compulsory purchase in 1947 saw a third of the estate sold off to make way for Fawley Oil Refinery
