A NEWPORT gin and cocktail bar will transform the city's riverbank with outside 'party pods'.

The Pod, on the corner of Clarence Place and Rodney Road, announced plans to create private dining pods on the banks of the River Usk alongside the city venue.

The clear domes, currently under construction, will allow customers to dine under the stars while enjoying views of the river and each one will have its own special design.

Based on the design of Paradise Pods at London's Coppa Club, the pods will have a Moroccan or oriental theme, although the final designs will be kept under wraps until the big launch in December.

Chris Hotson, general manager of The Pod, told the Argus the stand-alone pods can accommodate six to eight people who will be able to enjoy a private party. They will have heating and air conditioning with food and drink packages available.

Mr Hotson said: " This is part of The Pods grand plan to offer something a bit special and different to Newport."

The Pod opened in November 2017 and is owned and run by former Dragons and Wales player Paul Young and Newport businessman Oliver Mason.
