A SOUTHAMPTON city centre footbridge is set to be removed for 'essential' repairs.
Castle Way Bridge is set to be removed between September 24 and November 9.
The bridge - which provides a link between part of the city's historic walls for pedestrians - will be "newly refurbished" in a bid to show off Southampton's heritage.
City public realm and transport chief Councillor Jacqui Rayment said: ""We are committed to protecting and promoting Southampton's amazing and unique heritage.
"Once back in place, the newly refurbished Castle Way footbridge will showcase the walls and the city to residents and visitors alike for many more years to come. The work to remove the footbridge for refurbishment will take place overnight with as little disruption as possible."
City contractors Balfour Beatty will remove the bridge from the Bargate junction on September 24 with the work expected to take five weeks.
Castle Way will be closed overnight from 10pm until 6am for one night only.
Southampton City Council say the bridge will be returned overnight, when the road will also be closed - but the exact date is yet to be confirmed.
