A BIKER has died following a crash with a van that closed a major Hampshire road for several hours.

The biker was rushed to Southampton General Hospital following the accident on the A326 Marchwood Bypass, at the Staplewood Lane junction, shortly after 10am on Saturday.

However, a Hampshire Police spokesman has now confirmed the biker died at hospital due to the seriousness of his injuries.

Police are now appealing for information from anyone who many have seen the crash, or have dashcam footage.

A spokesman said the biker, in his 50s, was riding a Harley Davidson, while the van involved was a Mercedes Sprinter.

As previously reported, the incident brought the busy route to a standstill for most of Saturday, with both lanes of the bypass being closed into the afternoon.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call PC Mark Furse at the Serious Collision Investigation Unit in Eastleigh on 101.
