FAMILY and friends of Southampton schoolgirl Lucy McHugh are set to say their final farewells to the teenager today.

The 13-year-old’s funeral is set to be held at Hollybrook Cemetery this afternoon.

It has been labelled a ‘celebration of life’ by Lucy’s family, who have requested blues and greens for the day – said to be her favourite colours.

The funeral will be held more than four weeks after the teenager’s body was found in a wooded area of Southampton Sports Centre.

Since then, more than 200 officers have been involved in the investigation, as well as specialist police from the National Crime Agency (NCA).

Police have also recovered almost 900 items related to the investigation and continue to search through 15,000 hours of CCTV footage.

This week, officers carried out a leaflet drop in the area around the Sports Centre and reissued their appeal for more sightings of Lucy.

She was last seen at 9.30am on Wednesday, July 25, walking past Tesco Express on the coroner of Lordswood Road and Coxford Road.

CCTV also showed the teenager walking past Premier Stores on Wimpson Lane around 9am that day.

Lucy is believed to have left her home on Mansel Road East shortly before 9am.

Alongside, the community rallied around a campaign to fundraise for Lucy’s funeral.

The page had raised more than £7,000 at the time of publication.

A balloon release by Lucy’s friends also took place in Mansel Park last month.

Anyone with information on her death is asked to call 101, quoting ‘Operation Refund’.
