A MAN has appeared in court after a woman was shot in Southampton.

Stephen Scriven entered no plea as he appeared before Southampton Magistrates' Court yesterday morning, facing a number of allegations including causing grievous bodily harm and possessing a firearm.

The 31-year-old was arrested following the shooting at an address in Cuckmere Lane, Redbridge, on Monday, August 20.

Hampshire Constabulary attended the scene at around 6.20pm, after receiving reports that a woman had been injured in the shooting.

Police and South Central Ambulance confirmed that the woman sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries in the incident and was taken to Southampton General Hospital.

Residents were left "terrified" after hearing about the shooting.

Residents were yesterday left in shock after hearing about the shooting in the nearby flats.

One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "As a parent living here it is really concerning. There have been problems with drug dealers in the area before but nothing like this."

Another added: "I saw loads of police cars as I was walking back and couldn’t believe how many were there. It's a worry for people here."

"I hope they find whoever did this and that the girl is safe and well," a resident of Kendal Avenue told the Daily Echo.

"This is really sad. What has the world come too. We have had too many incidents like this in the area lately. Something has to be done."

Mr Scriven, of Cuckmere Lane is charged with possession of a firearm, possession with intent to supply crack cocaine and cannabis, causing grievous bodily harm and acquiring criminal property.

He was remanded in custody and will next appear at Southampton Crown Court on September 21.
