PLANS have been approved to convert part of an Indian takeaway and restaurant in Winchester into a Domino's.
The proposal for the Balaka Restaurant, in Stoney Lane, will see the existing business remain, but allow space for the international pizza chain to use as a takeaway.
However, the scheme attracted a number of objections over fears of delivery vehicle taking up parking spaces, creating noise late at night and increasing traffic.
City councillor Anne Weir, who objected to the scheme, added: "The situation is exacerbated by clandestine parking throughout the day. A change will have an unsupportable impact.
"The other problem in this area is litter and refuse. The situation in Acorn Close is simply dreadful."
However, planning agent Osian Roberts defended the proposal, saying the use of bicycles for delivering was becoming increasingly popular.
Mr Roberts said: "The use of the unit will not materially change. While some cars will be used they will be low and, in our view, will not have a noticeable impact.
"The proposal will contribute to local economic development."
Answering concerns over litter, he added: "Packaging and waste will be disposed of at home by the customers."
The plan was unanimously approved by Winchester City Council's planning committee.
