READING your report on the family locked in a bus at the depot reminded me of my grandfather’s similar experience.
In the 1930s, he and my granny lived in his Bullar Road home where l live now.
On Friday nights he would go into town for a few drinks, and take the last tram home.
The conductor knew him and would wake him up & stop the tram at the house.
One night, there was a new conductor who wasn’t aware of this arrangement, so granddad finally awoke when it was in the terminus garage.
The old man made such a fuss, the driver had to get the tram out and take him home!
