IN THIS day and age, the internet, social media and 24 hour news channels feeding us information every second about anything we care to show an interest in is potentially a good thing.

However it is incredibly dangerous and personally, I don’t think the human race is ready for it or can handle it.

I have a theory, text written on social media carries an element of responsibility, yet the author of the text often doesn’t have the qualification to understand that responsibility let alone manage it correctly.

Text is all the same size on a web page, it is all the same size in Facebook whether true or false, positive or negative.

All text has the same chance of “going viral” although incredibly more likely if you have more followers.

Sadly, people with more followers have a chance of saying something that more people will read, yet they aren’t any more qualified to write it, in fact, often they are less so .

There is no way of knowing, unless you already know, what text is correct or incorrect in Facebook.

Take Brexit, people voted for what they THOUGHT Brexit was based almost solely on social media. someone actually told me that they voted to leave because all crime in the UK was committed by foreigners. they read it on Facebook.

Facebook and Twitter recently gave Greg Gilbert a lifeline, it also keeps families in touch around the world, it has significant good points, but Brexit and Trump are examples of where Facebook has fed lies to people who believe what they read.

New stories on the Daily Echo face book page turkey baffle me with the ramblings of idiots pertaining to know how to solve crimes better than the police and I fear as I see likes driving up and up.

A person is smart, but people are stupid. People, we aren’t qualified to use Facebook.
