SPORTS fans heading to St Mary's and the Ageas Bowl this weekend will be handed flyers appealing for help over the murder of Southampton schoolgirl Lucy McHugh.

Police will hand out flyers to Saints fans ahead of the friendly clash with German side Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday.

Leaflets will also be given out at the Ageas Bowl, ahead of Hampshire's T20 game against Kent tonight.

Messages will be displayed on the grounds’ big screens as police continue their appeal over the death of the 13-year-old.

It comes after the Redbridge Community School student's body was found last Thursday in a wooded area at Southampton Sports Centre.

Detective Superintendent Paul Barton said: “We have already been contacted by over 100 members of the public with information.

“We’re really grateful for this support and this extends to Southampton FC and Hampshire Cricket for their help this weekend.

“We hope our appeal at these sporting events will jog people’s memories further."

Police say they are looking for sightings of Lucy between 9am on Wednesday, July 25, when she left her house in Mansel Road East, and 7.45am on Thursday, July 26 when her body was found.

DS Barton added: "If anyone was in the area between those times and has information that might help us - however insignificant it might seem - please get in touch.

“We want to speak to anyone who was with Lucy, who spoke to her or thinks they may have seen her.

“In addition, dashcam footage or private CCTV images may help us with our enquiries.

“We’re also keen to hear from anyone who was involved in activities at the Sports Centre on Wednesday the 25th or knows which clubs were there.”

Officers are encouraging people to consider the description of the clothes Lucy was last seen wearing.

They were a:

  • Distinctive black jacket with white sleeves, the logo for the band Falling in Reverse on the front and RADKE 01 in red on the back
  • White vest top
  • Camouflage leggings
  • Black and white Jordan 23 trainers
