EDUCATION chiefs have expressed their shock after a Weymouth secondary school was broken into – the first time in 14 years.

Wey Valley School on Dorchester Road in Broadwey was broken into yesterday morning.

Rob Cole, business and finance manager at Wey Valley School said the break-in happened around 6am.

He added: “They forced entry through the back entrance after smashing the door’s glass with a large brick.

“They then attempted to break through the internal doors which were locked to gain further access to the school but after 10 minutes they gave up.

“Two staff members who were on site at the time then alerted the police.”

Mr Cole added the incident had been captured on CCTV and the footage had been passed to the police.

He said they were working closely with gym operators 3D Leisure which are also on the same site dealing with the incident.

Mr Cole added: “It has come as a complete shock that in fourteen years we have not had a break in at this school until now.

“It could have been an awful lot worse if they had managed to gain further access to the school. Police arrived very quickly to deal with the incident.”

Nothing was taken during the break-in. Mr Cole added that the damage caused would not be financially significant.

Police said they were called at 6.15am on Wednesday to reports of a break-in at Wey Valley School.

A 37-year-old man from Weymouth has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and is assisting police with their enquiries.
