SOUTHAMPTON City Athletics Club youngster Tony Jideonwo enjoyed a weekend a May Day bank holiday of glory in 1989.
Jideonwo collected the Man of the Match award in his club’s National Girobank Young Athletes League match on Sunday and on the Monday wrapped up the colts pentathlon title at the Hampshire Athletics Association multi-event championships at Southampton Sports Centre.
Southampton based side came off second best in two Southern Area Basketball Association finals against Portsmouth teams.
In the intermediate final Southampton College led until a trio of three-point shots by England under 17 cap David Henderson steered Portsmouth Buccaneers to a 70-66 victory. Southampton leading scorers were Fergus Cowling, Ciernon Barry and Alistair Graham.
The senior final saw St Georges fall 80-71 to Portsmouth Smugglers.
