SHE'S probably better known as one half of top Southampton guitar duo Band of Skulls. But today Emma Richardson will be delving into the depths of her archives for a one day retrospective.

The show at Arches Studios will be mainly large-scale, abstract paintings - with some of her drawings there for all to see as well. The painter has gone right back through her work as part of a series of events showcasing some of the city's best artists.

The third in the series of one day retrospectives at the Captain's Place studios - underneath Central Bridge - is a bid to get artists' work out there to the public.

And it's also a chance for artists to look back on their work and see how far they've come.

Speaking to the Echo Emma said: "It's since I left college and went to do a foundation at Winchester School of Art - so since 2000, 18 years.

"It's a selection of things I've left, and things that I've put in storage. It's everything I could find.

"It's quite amazing to see it all laid out. I can see a progression, which is positive.

"It's a pleasure to be asked by a space."

She describes her style as "suggestive," and like the Rorschach test - the well-known psychology test which asks viewers to say what they see in an abstract ink splurge.

Emma added: "Everyone sees something different. It says more about the viewer than about me. There's underlying themes."

The day runs from 2-8pm with a talk from the artist at 6pm followed by drinks.
