I WOULD respectfully suggest that Steve Gore (Echo letters July 23) reads the full reports into the funding of the EU Referendum before giving us a one-sided view of half the report; once again we have someone who wants to remain in the EU telling half the story to have us believe the EU referendum was not democratic or fairly won.

The decision by the then-PM, David Cameron to spend £9.3 million of taxpayers' money on leaflets sent to all households gave the Remain side an unfair advantage. The Independent Commission goes on to say "The commission is concerned that the current restrictions on government during the referendum campaigns permit potentially unlimited spending of public money in favour of one side before the final four weeks".

Cameron knew full well that spending that money before the final four weeks would fall outside of the spending regulations, but we all knew that at the time, the Leave campaign had to accept that and get on with the fight, and they still won even with the full weight of the political elite conspiring to put them down.

Both sides of the campaign made over-optimistic comments, but it was the Remain groups that destroyed their chances of winning by continually bombarding us with negative project fear propaganda. The final downfall was allowing people like Major, Blair, Mandelson, Ashdown, Clegg to fight their corner, it was a mistake then as it is now, the general public do not want to be told that we as a country can't survive outside of the corrupt EU.

The way the EU negotiating team has acted makes me believe that even more people are now convinced we don't want to be in anymore. The EU is falling apart, once we leave others will follow.
