THE STREETS of Romsey are set to come alive tomorrow with the sounds of music and good cheer while colourful carnival floats snake their way past.
With anticipation of this- we take a peek back at Romsey carnival from July 1983.
Two bed races were part of the family fun - both men’s and women’s.
Four members of Romsey Rugby Club, with passenger Julie Edmonds, took the men’s trophy
The women’s race was dominated by Romsey School pupils who were the first to push their male “patient” over the line.
The sun shone at the carnival procession, which took place later in the week and attracted thousands of people.
It was the climax of the week in which attendance at almost all the events had exceeded expectations.
The procession took an hour to pass by but the verdict from both carnival officials and the police was that everything ran smoothly.
The mayor of Romsey at the time, Pamela Gale, joined in the fun dressed as a clown.
