TWO Hampshire teachers have been shortlisted for prestigious awards.

Barton Peveril College staff members Julie Ryman and Laura Stephens have been nominated for Pearson Teaching Awards.

Ms Ryman was nominated for Teaching Assistant of the Year award while Ms Stephens was nominated for Excellence in Special Needs Education.

Director of learning support Julie Stickland nominated both Laura and Julie in March.

The winners of both categories will be announced in October at an awards show broadcast on BBC Two.

Ms Ryman was nominated as a result of her work with one particular student over three years.

Meanwhile, Ms Stephens was recognised for dedication to her role and for helping the learning support department embrace technology by learning how to use software that offers support to dyslexic students, prior to introducing it to her students.

Praising the staff, Ms Stickland said: “Julie is particularly successful in her support of students with autism.

“Laura has led the way by using technology to help students remove these barriers.”
