FAWLEY Infant School is finishing the academic year on a real high after seeing its youngest reception children achieve record results.

Results show that 85 per cent of the four and five year-olds are achieving the ‘good Level of development’ at the end of the year.

The results also show that 45 per cent are exceeding the standard in reading, 30 per cent in writing and 25 per cent in maths.

Children are said to be at a ‘good level of development’ if they have achieved 12 of the early learning goals, which includes all the prime early learning goals plus literacy and math.

Principal, Hayley Jakimavicius, said: “These tremendous results have been achieved through excellent teaching. Our children’s learning needs are continually being met and we inspire our youngsters to learn and challenge their own thinking.”

Nearly half of the reception children have also achieved the highest standard in reading, with their accuracy and fluency of reading judged as impressive.

These pupils are soon to complete the phonics scheme, fully preparing them for the challenges that the Year 1 curriculum has to offer.

Mrs Jakimavicius added: “Our reception teacher, Mrs Osman, said it has been a pleasure to see the children fly high with their learning.”

“Providing a solid foundation of learning in Reception is absolutely essential if children are to develop as fully rounded and successful learners throughout their years of schooling.”

“We encourage all our children to aim high and achieve the best we know they can be.”
