POLICE, firefighters and paramedics rushed to an incident at Westquay car park today.

A woman threatened to jump from the 10th floor of the shopping centre car park, according to a spokesperson from Hampshire Fire and Rescue.

Firefighters, who used an aerial ladder platform, managed to rescue the person.

Police were also called to the incident, which took place around 12.40pm.

Officers say a woman climbed over the barrier of the car park, but was helped to safety around 1.23pm.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: "Officers were called just before 12.40pm to a concern for welfare at West Quay carpark.

"A woman had climbed over the barrier at the carpark.

"At 1.23pm she had been helped to safety onto the right side of the barrier."

A spokesperson for South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) added: "This was a concern for welfare incident that Hampshire Police asked us to attend at the multi-storey car park.

"We’ve no patient currently and looking at our incident notes it seems the patient has been/is being safely removed from danger."
