IT HAS happened again. Les Reed has brought in another superfluous addition to the club.

The idea itself is not too bad, Stuart Armstrong is coming at a cheap price and is seemingly a decent player.

In addition, he will add to the competition in central midfield. But Les Reed, what about the positions we screamingly need to strengthen?

Central defender:

During Koeman, we had one of Premier League’s best defences.

Lovren, Fonte, Alderweireld and van Dijk have all been outstanding at Saints, but somehow, they slipped away.

Jack Stephens has received the impossible task of keeping our clean sheets.

With all due respect to Stephens – he is a great player with a bright future – but at this time, he is not experienced enough to be in our starting 11.

Get an established central defender in!

Right-winger:

There is a reason why we have been linked to right-wingers such as Quincy Promes and Xherdan Shaqiri.

Since Sadio Mane left for Liverpool, there has been an unanswered question of who our right wing really belongs to.

Is it Tadic? Is it James Ward-Prowse?

James Ward-Prowse has often been giving the task of running up and down the right side of the pitch.

Yes, his crosses are outstanding!

However, he has never been a right winger by heart.

I dare you to mention one deep-down right-winger in our squad.

That is right, there are none!

Striker:

Every Southampton fan in the world must have been, at some point, upset by our strikers during the last season.

I do not doubt that our strikers wish to score lots of goals.

However, that has not been the reality.

Ward-Prowse and Davies together have scored more goals than Gabbiadini.

Yoshida has scored just as many goals as Long.

And don’t get me started on our last great signing, Guido Carrillo.

Maybe our strikers have been used wrong.

Maybe our team has played in the wrong formation.

However, Saints need to produce goals, and an established goal getter with a big name could be the way to start scoring goals and to inspire the remaining strikers.

There is still a long time left of the transfer window, there is still time to do the much-needed signings!
