POLICE have closed off a Hampshire beach after reports of an unexploded bomb being found.
Hampshire Constabulary's marine unit, and Hillhead Coastguard Rescue service are currently on scene at Chilling Beach near Warsash.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: "We were called at 11.47am after a boat came across a piece of historic ordnance in the water off Meon Shore.
"We have attended and put a cordon in place on the beach as a precaution. We are working with the Coastguard.
"Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) are on scene."
The beach has been cordoned off, with an exclusion zone set up of 500 metres.
Coastguard officers are maintaining the closure, and have advised residents not to approach, or try to pass through, the area.
